Our Story

On Friday, January 6, 2023, Joshua Troutt tragically lost his life in a fatal motor vehicle crash at the age of 26, leaving behind his beloved wife, Angelica, his family, and countless friends who loved him deeply.

Just a few months after Josh’s passing, the vision for the Troutt Foundation was placed on Angelica’s heart. She began praying over it, asking the Lord to guide her steps and reveal the path forward. Over the past three years, she has continued to seek Him faithfully, lifting up this mission and trusting Him to lead every step.

She knew she was being called to help others walking a road she knew all too well—a journey shaped by deep loss and grief after losing not only Josh, but also her father just two months earlier in another motor vehicle crash. It became a journey of learning to walk through the fire with the Lord, trusting Him to carry her even when the path ahead felt uncertain.

Along the way, Angelica was deeply supported by a community that surrounded her with love, encouragement, and unwavering faith. They were, and continue to be, a reflection of God’s love, reminding her that no one should have to walk through grief alone. Through this experience, she realized that not everyone has this kind of support, and that truth became a defining part of the heart behind the Troutt Foundation.

Angelica created the Troutt Foundation to be the hands and feet of Jesus in her community. Inspired by Josh’s unwavering heart for helping others, we exist to carry his legacy forward by bringing hope, healing, and the love of Jesus Christ to individuals and families navigating the devastating loss of a loved one due to a fatal motor vehicle accident.

What began in loss has become a mission of hope, ensuring that no one has to walk through grief alone.

What We Do

At the Troutt Foundation, we walk alongside Houston-area families in their darkest moments.

When a family loses a loved one in a fatal motor vehicle crash, the emotional weight is immeasurable. But the financial pressure that follows can be just as devastating. That's where we step in.

We provide emergency bereavement financial grants to help cover the immediate costs that can't wait. Our grants may be used for funeral and burial expenses, household essentials, childcare, grief counseling, and other urgent hardship needs.

We don't just give. We serve with heart. Rooted in the love of Jesus Christ, we come alongside each family with prayer, compassion, dignity, and hope, because no one should have to navigate loss alone.

The Process

Applying for a Troutt Foundation emergency bereavement grant is simple. Families can submit an application online, and our team will carefully review each request within 3–5 business days. Once approved, grant funds are disbursed directly — whether to the applicant or on their behalf to service providers such as funeral homes, childcare providers, or counseling services, so that relief reaches those who need it as quickly as possible. Grant approval is subject to the availability of funding.

Who we serve

Troutt Foundation is devoted exclusively to families affected by fatal motor vehicle crashes in Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Waller, Austin, Liberty, Chambers, Galveston, and Brazoria counties. This includes automobile, motorcycle, and pedestrian-related fatalities.

Our Team

We are governed and operated by a volunteer Board of Directors. In addition to providing strategic oversight and governance, Board members actively support the day-to-day operations of the nonprofit. Our President provides significant leadership and operational coordination, working alongside the Board to advance our mission and serve our community.

All members of our Board serve on a volunteer basis and receive no compensation for their service. Their dedication allows us to direct 100% of our resources toward our emergency bereavement grants.
